Elaine Morrissey, 38, from Athlone, Co Westmeath, has Ehlers Danlos Syndrome (EDS) a life-threatening illness that weakens the connective tissues that join the body together. If she doesn’t get a specialist treatment called Total Parenteral Nutrition (TPN) soon, she will die.
Elaine and her daughter Ruby, six, both suffer from EDS, which has endless symptoms including dislocations of bones and joints, chronic pain, fatigue, vertigo and violent spasms.
Elaine also suffers chronic digestive problems which causes her to vomit blood daily.
Elaine said she has been turned down by numerous doctors here, as it’s a rare condition that is difficult to treat. She has even sent a message to Michael Martin in a plea for help.
Elaine, who communicated with the Irish Sun via email as she is currently unable to speak, said: “You can’t imagine the frustration of being ignored by this country and wondering if this is the future your little girl must also bare.”
Elaine urgently needs to have her veins in the neck decompressed surgically and also needs spinal fusion surgery.
